We know about 2020, the year that was somewhere between painfully slow and incredibly fast as our lifestyles and institutions changed profoundly. For many, business plans prepared at the start of the year were not robust enough. 40% of sales leaders missed their annual targets. We know 2021 needs to be better, but the question is how, when there is so much uncertainty?
David Aguilar has inspired us with his working methods. At the age of 20, he built a prosthetic arm out of…you guessed it…Lego.
Start by planning less and doing more.
David’s first prosthetic took a week to build, intuitively placing & removing pieces until he crafted a working arm. Most people would stop there. Not David. He went straight back to the workroom to improve on his model. And in 24 hours he did.
His fourth and final attempt took just 9 hours.
Once finished, he proudly went downstairs and celebrated with push-ups in front of his family. This year, like David, we’re all about the big picture goals and a flexible mindset to achieve them.
Follow these five steps to be a Lego pro (at Sales).
- Assemble your audience by connecting with them on social media.
- Convert prospects to customers by engaging in conversation.
- Assess your results. Could you do anything better?
- Learn from your earlier models & convert more prospects to customers.
Repeat as many times as necessary.
5. Celebrate.
The world is unpredictable, act and adapt, piece by piece.
The one thing we can say for sure is that we don’t know what’s coming next. The business world is abuzz with words like resilience and grit. In other words, it’s going to be tough, so why not have a bit of creative fun with it at the same time? Enjoy the freedom from the tyranny of a detailed business plan. Build a network and use your experience and intuition to create the results you need.
